By far, the best old-school tacos around. If you are on an LA. search for great tacos, definitely do not miss this place. After trying as many taco places with high ratings as we could, Taqueria El Zarape on Fountian is our favorite. Friendly staff!
Have driven by here many times and wanted to stop. I am very glad I did. The salsa and guacamole with chips are superb, the salsa has an addictive quality that makes you keep wanting to eat more.
Breakfast burrito with chorizo and potatoes was a great choice. The eggs and chorizo were spiced perfectly. A bonus is they serve meals on real dishes which is entirely unexpected in a small place like this.
You can only get tacos in orders of two. We got the pastor, birria and cabeza. They were all pretty good. Price was around 3 dollars for each taco.
Atmosphere is fun, good cumbia playing.
This is a cozy, unpretentious, and colorful place with patio eating only. You'd think you're on a vacation somewhere, eating at a local restaurant. THE FOOD IS AMAZING!! Very flavorful and authentic. I've liked everything I ordered, this is one of the best-tasting Mexican food I've had in LA. If you're around the area, don't leave without stopping here, you'll be glad you did, and your taste buds will thank you.

I had the mole cheese enchiladas with rice and beans. They were decent, 3.75*, but not worth the price I think. The mole sauce tasted like canned sauce and a bit too sweet.
Good doesn't even begin to describe food in El Zarape. When we first arrived we asked the cashier what the best thing to order was because everything in the menu looked great. He reccomend us the Mole as they were known for it and he personally liked it a lot. We got a tamal, chilaquiles de mole, agua de jamaica, and a torta al pastor. All of the food was incredible from the chips and salsa to the cheese. The staff was very nice and attentive. From the outside it seems like a small little place but inside is a great and cozy atmosphere. They were playing some great music and also had a television. I will definitely continue eating here!
It’s the authentic Mexican desayuno post-shift for me… the proof is in the salsa y’all! 💃😋
LA is so giving, gracias @el_zarape_cocina 🙏🏻🇲🇽
Elizabeth is so friendly, she remembered me right away and told me that I left my jacket and saved it for me! She’s also a great photographer! 😂

I went to this place yesterday thinking to try some new food , was craving a good Mexican food spot . Once I got there the lady was nice and helping me as I’ve never been there but once I got my burrito it was horrible . My potatoes were rock solid . They were so hard I couldn’t even bite into it like they weren’t cooked at all ! I was frustrated but I still was polite when I told her , they just remade my burrito after that without the potatoes . Then I ordered another one to- go & I don’t know if the cooks were mad that I brought back the first burrito since they were just starting at me giving me mean looks but once I got home to eat it it was another horrible burrito the meat was just pure fat . Not steak not carne asada . Just fat pieces like they gave me that on purpose . I was so disgusted I just threw it away . So upset I spent 25$ on food that was bad and I couldn’t even come back since I don’t live in LA :(
